August already??

Writer's picture: KCCKCC

Two more weeks until the kids come back. How did that happen? I am NOT ready to give up my summer yet. The days of pure freedom, empty of sounds and noises, and with a million chances to use the bathroom whenever I want to. The days of sunshine, reading, being outside, drinking coffee, and not thinking about school. I love those days. Every single one of them.

When school is out in late June, the beginning of the next school seems light years away. It seems like I have an endless amount of time to get all the stuff done that was set aside during the school year. The sewing projects, the cleaning out and rearranging of the kitchen cupboards, the travel and the adventure plans. And yet somehow, year after year, by mid August I start to realize that this utter blissfulness is coming to an end. Labor Day is near. Much nearer than I'd like it to be.

I love my job, and I know by the time my classroom is set up, the first few weeks are planned, and the new name tags are attached I will be excited for that new group of kiddos to come through my door. But right now, all I can do is sit on the couch, staring in disbelief onto the wall next to the TV, hoping for someone to pinch me and tell me it's indeed only early July!

Someone? Anyone? Pretty please!

PS: The photo was taken in July on Tilikum Lake near Mount Hood in Oregon.
